The big packing list for your vacation in a holiday home

You are almost on your way to your vacation in a holiday home. The bags are already packed, and you are ready. But then you think, did I remember it all?

Many ask themselves that question, and therefore we here give you a packing list that has everything you will need for a vacation in a holiday home.

Some of the things on the list are necessary to bring, while others depend on your needs and expectations for the holiday home. For example, if you are cleaning the house yourself or if you have booked a cleaning by us.

The list here is there as much a source to inspiration on what you may need for your stay in a holiday home.

Before you leave home

Before you leave for the vacation, there are some things that are nice to have in place at home. It is not fun to be on your way and you remember that you did not empty the trash in the house.

  • Close all doors and windows
  • Turn down, or turn off, the heat
  • Empty the fridge, or check the expiry date on everything in there
  • Empty all trash cans
  • Pause newspaper subscriptions
  • Ask your neighbor if they can look after the mail and water the plants

Papers and identification

When you leave for your holiday, it is important that you have all your papers and identification with you. You should therefore remember:

  • Drivers license
  • Contract on the rented holiday home (you need this when you pick up the key)
  • Health insurance card
  • Registration papers on the car and the insurance papers on it
  • Credit card and cash

You can bring the contract on the holiday home either printed or on your phone/tablet.

Electronics

Electronics is now a part of our everyday and are often need on vacations too.

  • Mobile phone / tablet / PC
  • Chargers for all devices
  • Camera
  • Extra batteries

If you are not using your phone as a GPS, it can be a good idea to remember a GPS, so you easily can navigate in the area.

Most of our holiday homes have free internet. Check before you leave if the house you rented has internet. If not, it can be a good idea to buy more data or bring mobile internet.

For the kitchen

In all our holiday homes the kitchen has pots and pans, glasses, and cutlery. The amount of equipment and what more the kitchen is equipped with varies from house to house. It is very different what families decides to bring, as the needs of every family is different. But here is a list of things that are always nice to have in the kitchen.

  • Paper towels
  • Baking sheets
  • Foil
  • Napkins
  • Coffee filters
  • Dish washer taps / soap
  • Hand soap
  • Cloths and dishtowels
  • Bags for food and trash bags
  • Spices
  • Cleaning detergents (especially if you are cleaning the house yourself)

You can also rent a package with bedlinen, towel, and dish towel.

For the bathroom

We cannot forget all the things that we just normally have in the bathroom and therefore take for granted. It can be more things than you know, but we recommend bringing:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Shampoo, balsam, and body shower
  • Hand soap
  • Cremes, deodorant and what else you use for your personal day care
  • Toilet paper
  • Towels
  • Band aids and other first kit essentials
  • Nail clippers

You can also rent a package with bedlinen, towel, and dish towel.

For the bedroom

You can, as mentioned before, rent a linen package by us. You can choose between two packages, one with only bed linen and one with bed linen, towels, and a dish towel. If you choose to bring your own, you will need:

  • Sheets
  • Linen for the duvets and pillows.

For the "hygge"

In Denmark, a stay in a holiday home means a lot of family time and “hygge”. In some of our holiday homes you will find some board games, card games and books, but this is not a given. We therefore recommend that you bring this yourself.

  • Board games and card games
  • Paper and drawing tools
  • Books
  • Sudoku or crosswords
  • Outdoor games

For the dog

Dogs are allowed in many of our holiday homes, and when you bring your four-legged friend, there are some things that are good to remember.

  • Dog bed
  • Food for the dog / snacks
  • Leash
  • Food and water bowl
  • Toys

All the rest

At last we have “all the rest”. The small stuff that are so easy to forget, but in many ways are some of the most important to bring along.

  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Blanket for the beach
  • Umbrella and rainwear
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Washing detergent
  • Clothes for the season
